ARTICLE 022 1870 A.D.

1. On September 20, King Victor Emmanuel's troops took Rome. Rome and its environs were taken from the Pope and annexed to the kingdom of Italy. A259:2; B356:5; Secular History

2. French troops had maintained the Pope in the city of Rome from 1861 to 1870, but when the troops were withdrawn to fight Prussia, Victor Emmanuel moved in and in seizing Rome became the seventh and last head of Rome. R2062; Secular History

3. Here the city of Rome and its seventh head ceased to be a seat of world empire. It was still the fourth beast of Dan.2:33,40,41,43; Dan.7:7,8,19,20,23-28, but now it would add on the condition of its ten horns or ten kings of Revelation 13:1 and Revelation 17. These ten horns or kings, in conjunction with Papacy, the Anglican Church, the Greek Catholic Church, and the Lutheran Church, made up Babylon (Christendom) and had no head. They seemingly were the eighth condition of Rome (Rev.17:11- 13), which ruled one hour with the beast, the seventh head of Rome. This rule lasted until the war, revolution, and anarchy of 1914-1918 destroyed the whole system. This destruction is portrayed in Daniel 2 as the stone smiting the image on its ten toes (ten kings or ten horns). Revelation 13:1 also shows the ten horns with ten crowns which they apparently receive in the joint rule of one hour with the beast, the seventh head of Rome (Rev. 17:12). R2062; Secular History

4. Here, (year 1870 A.D.) the Pope was fully consumed as the last vestige of his civil power ceased, we believe, forever. C39:2; C57:3; C58:2; A259:2; B356:5
